Our latest service offering, available as an add-on to the Local Insight subscription, gives you the option to work with the OCSI team to develop your own Report Theme for use within Local Insight.
This theme is integrated into Local Insight, so you can use it time and time again for any of your Custom Areas, with data always showing the latest available timepoints.
The team at Wirral wanted to develop their own Bespoke Report Themes that could be used to prioritise neighbourhoods based on the level of inequalities they were facing. They wanted to support the Integrated Care Board (ICB) of Cheshire and Merseyside in its neighbourhood-level working, which is a core element of the Core20PLUS5 process aimed at reducing healthcare inequalities at both the national and integrated care system level.
The council’s JSNA Programme Lead, John Highton, spearheaded the initiative. John, alongside his team, decided on a set of indicators that could be used to evaluate which neighbourhoods needed to be prioritised.
They chose over 40 indicators that allowed them to accurately identify and prioritise areas with higher levels of inequality, supporting their work more effectively, with the reassurance that the data is reliable and regularly updated by OCSI.

Wirral has the Public Site add-on, which allows external stakeholders to access profile reports for themselves. With this functionality, they plan to create a “one-stop shop” for the ICB and other stakeholders to have easy access to the information they need and allow them to “self-serve”.
The Bespoke Report Themes have allowed Wirral Council to tailor Local Insight to their specific needs, helping them to free up resources by providing consultancy-level support quickly and easily.
John notes that “evaluating each of the areas the ICB were interested in placed a lot of demand on us. We don’t want to meet that demand directly; we want to meet it with tools and give them the tools to be able to understand these areas themselves.”
“The fact that we can give the opportunity to partners to see specific data for their project or area of work encourages them to come to Local Insight, widen its usage, and makes it more valuable for all of us,” John explains.
“They can know that the data that’s listed will be updated and relevant – it means that once it’s set up, it takes very little time for us to manage – and encourages that self-service.”
